A very cold princess

Frozen 00Having close friends who are the same ages as my own insanely old middle aged kids, I sometimes get to participate in a totally different lifestyle than my own. One of my friends has a life that really closely parallels mine 30 years ago, and I really enjoy watching her be involved in her three kids' lives.

Recently, her youngest had her fifth birthday, and it's becoming standard now for us to help her out with the birthday parties.  This particular one was quite an affair.

Frozen 01
A Frozen day!
Frozen 02
So sweet

As I don't currently have small people in my world, I'm not keeping up with current trends.  However, whenever I was at this family's house, the small people were always glued to the video of Frozen, and the music is also quite popular in general.  So it was no surprise to see that be the theme of this party.

Something not popular when I had small people was dressing up, but this little girl loves turning into a princess all the time.  Including for her own party.

Frozen 03
Do mine, do mine!
Frozen 04
Piñata time
This mommy so has her act together most of the time.  Not only did she plan a party for half the kids in the region, she painted tiny fingernails with Frozen blue glitter polish!  Piñatas seem to be obligatory now for all parties, and the Frozen industry was quite happy to provide their version.

Frozen 05
Sugar, sugar, and more sugar
Of course, you have to feed kids at a party.  There is always a lot of sugar at these parties to keep all the kids super hyper; nobody is ever napping.

Frozen 06
Guess the theme
As this is a mixed Brit/French family, I'm never sure which country the traditions come from, not having had small people in either country.  I think this wonderful concoction, which shows up at every party, is a Brit thing.

The birthday cake definitely was a big hit, too.

Frozen 07
Commercialization ...
Frozen 08
... in full force

And of course, you have to follow the theme.  Here we have a Frozen cupcake tree, with Frozen cupcake liners, topped with Frozen decorations, sitting on a Frozen tablecloth.

I told my friend she was a blatant marketing junkie, to which she just grinned and agreed.  But they are only little people once, for such a short time, so it's always a pleasure to indulge them, isn't it?

Frozen 09
A successful presentation
Frozen 10
My candle says I'm 5

Isn't this a pretty setting for a little princess' personal party?  More sugar with Frozen blue donuts!

How did they not come up with a Frozen candle?  Numeral candles are cheating when it comes to blowing them out, but at least they are easier to relight when the wind comes to party, too!

Frozen 11
It's my party and I'm the star
Frozen 12
Totally Frozen

After the sugar fest, it was time to sit quietly (yeah, right) while the Princess held court as her subjects presented her with gifts.

Not only did they come dressed Frozen themselves, their gift packaging was more Frozen than not.

Frozen 13
Is this for me?
Frozen 14
Or for me?

As if there wasn't enough of the theme, even the gifts themselves were mostly Frozen products.  All mommies are apparently marketing junkies!

Now the Princess can go swimming in Frozen gear, provided the mommy doesn't steal the suit from her!

While my primary role beyond helping when necessary was documenting this delightful event, even the Doc had his responsibilities.  Being in a gated residence, his job was to man (hah) the phone to let the small people in the gate when they arrived and then direct them to the little park where the parties are always held (fingers crossed there's no rain!).

Frozen 15
The Doc is so popular at the moment
Frozen 16
Look at his fun toy

But he gets to do other fun things, too.  This time he was needed to blow up balloons.  While he can be full of hot air, he didn't need it as there was this fun little tool provided.  As you can see, this job made him quite popular with the small world.

Frozen 17
First we wrap the blindfold
Frozen 18
Then we spin dizzy
What kid doesn't like the pin the ____ on the _____ game?  Certainly all the Frozen princesses did, this time involving sticking buttons on the snowman.

Did they really need instruction on being blindfolded?  And of course, the birthday girl got to go first.

Frozen 19
Now it's your turn to spin dizzy
Frozen 20
But I get to go twice

Then she had a good time spinning all her friends around.  Small people guiding other small people are so fun to watch.

But after everybody else had taken their turn, she got to take the last one.

Frozen 21
Ha hah, tricked you
Frozen 22
Such a fun day
However, unbeknownst to her, the snowman got turned upside down.  Everybody who wasn't blindfolded thought that was just the most fun.

And after the last buttons got pasted on, the party was over.

Doesn't this just look like the happiest little birthday girl?  Will her love of Frozen start to melt now?  I wouldn't count on it!

Frozen 23
Off in the distance ... tranquility
I hope you've enjoyed this little window into a totally different aspect of our life than we normally lead.  It was definitely a nice change of pace from all the extreme mountain moving on our property that we are normally involved in.  And it was a good bit noisier!

But one thing I do really enjoy every time we help out at these parties is the view from the little park in the residence.  Somehow it looks a lot more peaceful than all the activity going on in the park!

  1. Yes, Frozen is big. Catherine loved Frozen everything and then she got "too old" and the Frozen princesses were not cool. It is still ok to like Olaf so that's what she likes.

  2. My first grandson was 6 a couple of days ago. His celebrations were very activity based. Maybe Frozen is more of a girls' thing (dare I say it?). Or maybe 6 is too old? His younger brother likes Spiderman, though like most kids, they change their allegiances regularly. We won't see them until later this week (they don't live nearby) - who knows what they'll like by then! J requested a magic set and colouring pencils for his present so his grandfather will be teaching him how to do the tricks do he can boggle others

  3. What a great party. Frozen is wonderful and Jessie and Emily are still wearing all sorts of Frozen clothes and jammies. Craig is wearing what looks like a Sierra Madre City College tshirt! Is he? Didn't you have the best time ever? Emily had her 5th birthday party last month and we had such a good time. This party looked so great. Aren't you glad you got to go!

    1. Well spotted. Yes, it is the Tee you gave me years ago, though I no longer remember the occasion.

  4. Interesting that Frozen is such an intense rage over there as well. Does look like quite a party. I like sweets, and even my tummy was starting to feel ill at all the sugary treats you posted! LOL. What is that Brit thing, marshmallows with gummy candies surrounded by gum drops?
